PSG in Faro to prepare for Champions League quarter-final against Atalanta

The Parisians landed in the south of Portugal in the early afternoon this Saturday. They are there on a training camp in preparation for their Champions League quarter-final against Atalanta, scheduled for Wednesday (9pm).


PSG have arrived in Portugal

The Parisian delegation’s flight landed at Faro airport at 1.45pm (12.45pm local time) on Saturday. The players and staff then travelled the ten kilometres to their hotel, the Wyndham Grand, where they will stay for three days.

As expected, Marco Verratti is the only player in the squad not to have made the trip.

With the long-awaited Champions League quarter-final meeting with Atalanta Bergamo just days away, Paris Saint-Germain are counting more and more injuries among their star-studded squad.

A slight doubt surrounds the availability of right-back Thilo Kehrer.

The goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, is expected to miss the Champions League quarter-final, against PSG on 12 August, after suffering an injury in Serie A.

Pierluigi Gollini is expected to miss Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Paris SG due to a right knee injury, the Italian sports media reported on Saturday.

Gollini was injured on 1 August in the final Serie A match against Inter Milan. The Atalanta staff had hoped the injury would not be serious but, according to the Gazetta dello Sport, the cruciate ligament was hit.

Gollini will not play against Paris SG on Wednesday, the Gazzetta said. The news has not yet been confirmed by Atalanta, but many Italian sports media have given the same information.

The 25-year-old Gollini is one of Italy’s most promising young goalkeepers and is regularly called up for the national team by Roberto Mancini.

Atalanta Bergamo keeper likely to miss out on the quarter-final against PSG

He once played for Italy. Against PSG, it’s No2 goalkeeper Marco Sportiello who should be playing.

For the Lisbon match, Bergamo coach Gian Piero Gasperini will also be deprived of Josip Ilicic, his greatest attacking talent, who is absent due to personal and psychological difficulties. Central defender Palomino is also uncertain.
