Messi flirts with Guardiola, and opens the door to the “deal of the century”

Argentine soccer star, Lionel Messi, the Barcelona striker, praised his former coach Pep Guardiola, who worked under his leadership,  at the Catalan club between 2008 and 2012, describing him as distinguished in the field of training.

These statements are expected to reinforce speculation,  about the possibility of Messi joining Guardiola’s current team, Manchester City, next season.

Messi, one of the most important pillars of the Barcelona squad, was under the leadership of Guardiola, which won 14 major titles during this period, and there were reports that Messi could move to City after the Spanish coach’s contract with the English club was extended until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the current season and has previously tried to leave before the start of this season, but he decided to wait until the end of the contract.

A Spanish TV channel quoted Messi as saying, “Pep has a special style” in training.

The veteran Argentine player added, “He presents you with a clear picture. A picture that includes how to prepare for matches, defensively and offensively, and provides you with an accurate picture of the match in advance and explains to you how to attack and win.”

Messi added, “I was fortunate to work under his leadership and under Luis Enrique, because they are the best coaches and helped me develop physically and mentally, as I learned from them technical skill.”

Guardiola said last month that as a Barcelona fan, he hoped Messi would continue with the Catalan club until the end of his playing career.
