Serie A leaders after seven days, AC Milan are off to a good start to the season. In order to maintain the momentum, the Lombard club intends to strengthen its squad this winter with inexpensive recruits. Two players are targeted: winger Florian Thauvin (Olympique de Marseille) and central defender William Saliba (Arsenal).
Who would have thought it? Since the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic last January, AC Milan has regained confidence and beautiful ambitions. Brilliant in 2020, the Lombard club is in the lead in Serie A after seven games and is equally serious in the Europa League, despite a big defeat against Lille (0-3). Logically, the Rossoneri want to keep up the momentum to last the whole season. This will inevitably involve the arrival of reinforcements during the winter mercato.
Thauvin’s interest is confirmed
And according to the Pianeta Milan site, the Lombardy outfit intends to try its luck with Florian Thauvin. As announced by various Italian media for several weeks now, Milan would be very interested in the winger from the Olympique de Marseille. The Italian club would even have a new plan in mind, with an exchange for the Spanish winger Samu Castillejo. A player certainly considered promising at 25, but mainly used as a substitute (11 appearances this season) by Milan coach Stefano Pioli. There is no indication that such a proposal will satisfy OM. In any case, this is another blow of pressure on the Phoceans, who have no more time to lose to offer a contract extension to Thauvin, at the risk of seeing number 26 leave free at the end of his lease next June.
The Saliba track in defence
At first glance, Thauvin is the priority attacking track. And Milan does not intend to stop there. At the same time, Pioli would also like to attract a central defender to ensure the balance of his team: the young William Saliba, again according to Pianeta Milan. Still disappointed to have failed for Wesley Fofana, who left AS Saint-Etienne for Leicester City this summer, the Milanese would now like to attract on loan the other former defensive prodigy of the Greens, who is gnawing at his brake with Arsenal. Here again, the Serie A leader is aiming for a lower cost operation. In this dossier, Milan will have to deal with competition from ASSE.
