French defender Raphaël Varane has expressed to his Real Madrid leaders his desire for a change of scenery.
After ten years of good and loyal service, Raphaël Varane would consider leaving Real Madrid to take up a new challenge. This is what the Spanish daily reveals Sport, by indicating that the French international considers the ideal time to change air. His contract expires in 2022 and a transfer at the end of the current season could arrange the various parties.
A departure to relaunch?
27 years old, Varane is not having his best season in the Merengue jersey. The former Lensois even made several mistakes which were detrimental to his team. Zinédine Zidane, the coach, continues to support and trust him, but it seems obvious that the world champion is struggling to regain his level of a few years ago. A transfer to another big European club could possibly help him to revive.
A few years ago Varane had been the subject of serious interest from Manchester United. Feeling very good at Madrid at the time, he had declined the Red Devils’ approach and opted to continue at the Bernabeu. A choice that he should not really regret, since he is now one of the players who have marked the most prestigious Spanish club and with a track record to be jealous of more than one. He has three Liga and four Champions League to his credit.
